ORIX METRO continues to promote a greener nation with mangrove reforestation project
Guided by the goal of being a good corporate citizen, OMLF continued with its mangrove reforestation project along the shores of San Miguel Bay in Brgy. Cagsao, Calabanga, Camarines Sur.
A total of 20 employees from South Eastern Luzon (SEL) branches (Naga, Legaspi, Daet, and Sorsogon) and the Head Office donned their volunteer hats and planted a total of 5,000 mangrove propagules as part of OMLF’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. Majority of the participants are “millennials”, with their ages ranging from 22-28 years old.
Running for seven years now, this project aims to support the residents who are at risk when calamities strike as they can lose both their homes and livelihood. The mangrove forest protects shorelines from soil erosions, and acts as a buffer from typhoons and floods. Additionally, the project provides an alternative source of income for the inhabitants as the site serves as a nursery area for crablets and fish.
To date, ORIX METRO has planted a total of 325,000 mangrove seedlings that have developed into hundreds of thriving mangrove plants along the bay.
